Goal attainment is a perpetual topic for discussions during our Bay City Connections meetings. As such, we’ve amassed several best practices, while we continue to find more effective methods to achieve our objectives. Here are three standards that we’ve noted are common among accomplished people:
- Create SMART Goals: When it comes to establishing goals, vague doesn’t cut it. Our Bay City Connections model is based on SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Sensitive. This formula allows us to track our progress through specific milestones. We can see in real time how well we’re doing and make applicable changes if needed.
- Invoke Self-Discipline: We’ve learned that attaining our objectives requires focus. This means setting aside allotted time to work on the steps we need to achieve our final goal. This time should be distraction-free. In other words, we try to find a quiet space to work, without interruptions. Since technology (TV, internet, smartphones) can pull our attention away from what we’re trying to do, sometimes we need to unplug as well.
- Think Positive: Through our Bay City Connections coaching program, we instill positive thinking as a means to achieve goals. We emphasize optimism, even in the face of obstacles. If we believe roadblocks are nothing more than opportunities in disguise, we can accomplish so much more.
Reaching our goals and raising the bar are hallmarks of our organization. Like us on Facebook to learn more about how we stay motivated.
